A Sims Live Action Movie Is in the Works With the Producers of Barbie

A live-action adaptation of The Sims is reportedly in the works with LuckyChap, the producers of the critically acclaimed Barbie movie.

Trusted Hollywood reporter Jeff Sneider has revealed that The Sims movie is currently in development with LuckyChap. They are one of the production companies that helped make the iconic Barbie starring Margot Robbie. Additionally, Kate Herron, the director of the first season of the Loki TV show, will be directing The Sims film. Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon are also involved, with Lee having co-produced the LEGO Movie in 2014. Finally, EA, as the franchise’s publisher, will also be involved in some capacity.

What Is The Sims Movie About and When Is it Releasing?

There is currently no information on what the live-action Sims movie will be about and when it will be released. However, we suspect that it will likely be a strong interpretation of the iconic game, considering how successful the Barbie movie was at encapsulating the themes and history of that brand.

Of course, when it comes to the story, there are a lot of possible routes they could take. It has been speculated that The Sims movie could revolve around some of the iconic Sims that populate the world. For example, many believe it could center around the Goth family, as they have appeared in multiple Sims games. Each EA-created character has a backstory that the community has cherished over the years, and this would be a perfect direction for the movie to take place.

However, if the movie takes a more player-based approach, we could see much of the Sims community’s chaos. This could include Sims getting fences built around a pool when they’re swimming, aliens, cowplants, the 100 babies challenge, the motherlode cheat, rags-to-riches, the legacy challenge, and much more. It could also feature game mechanics such as Create-A-Sim, editing lots, and using cheats. Either way, while the details are scarce, the possibilities are endless, and we’re hard-pressed to imagine an adaptation that is truly awful.
